On April 20, 2009, the Federation of Steel Workers of the United States filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission on special safeguard measures to impose quota restrictions on the consumption of tyres exported to the United States. After the difficult process of government consultation, legal defense and industry lobbying in May, the Obama administration finally, under domestic political pressure, approved the decision of special safeguard for tyres from China despite facts and our strong opposition on September 11. Imported car and light truck tyres are subject to punitive tariffs for three years, 35%, 30% and 25% respectively.
